Each
year, the Musquodoboit Valley Lions Club awards a bursary to a
graduating student of Musquodoboit Rural High School who is
going on to higher learning.
Strong
consideration is given to candidates who have proven volunteer
experience in the school and the community at large.
This
bursary is only given to a student who has not received any
other bursaries at graduation and is payable directly to the
student once he or she has enrolled in secondary education.
Educational
Trip Sponsorship
During
the 2007-08 school year, our Club helped sponsor an educational
trip for 26 (Grade 11 and 12) Musquodoboit Rural High School
students to visit Italy and Greece. After the one-week trip,
student, Arjuna Logan-Young and trip chaperone, Jackie Stewart,
joined the Lions at our May supper meeting to tell us how
valuable the trip had been for everyone.
Arjuna
composed a fabulous PowerPoint presentation, displaying photos
taken during the trip of Vatican
City, the Roman
Colosseum, Pompeii,
Athens, the Acropolis,
Corinth Canal,
Delphi, Olympia,
and Mount Olympus. It was an extremely entertaining and
educational presentation for our Lions.
Arjuna
says this trip was a very positive experience that has had a
huge impact on him. He was particularly impressed with the Sistene
Chapel... he said "to think that ONE man could do
that".
